Fashion week in NYC

So I was in a fashion show for fashion week here in NYC. I think the show went very well and I was honored to be a part of it. I wore QFD, Abby Z, and Sir Charles clothing. Now you know by now I am going to complain about my feet. They were killing me. If you want to be a model you will have hurt feet period. I nealed on chairs any thing to relieve the pain. You can't sit while wearing designers dresses. And my Diva shoes were so complex that they were not easy to throw off and on. I have the

I saw a lot of friends and I met a lot of new ones. It was strait sizes verses plus sizes. The plus size models got a good amount of photo's on the runway. However, back stage was another story. were is the plus size love. photographers only wanted to take pictures of staite size models. It was real sad to see myfull figures sisters practically begiging for photos.

A couple of the the girls from the miss NYC pageant were there. It was good to get to know them in a new arena. Some crazy drama happened too but I am not allowed to go into details.

I have come a long way

I have been through some hard times in this life. My dreams are coming true and it feels great. I remember years ago when my best friend Natatsa asked me if I wanted to model for a local designer in Brooklyn, NY. The designer's name was Bonnie and she wanted to have models of different shades and sizes for her shows. Including Full Figured Models. I said yes and now look at me. We modeled in restaurants, parties, parks, banquets and bars from week to week. It was great times. We would get paid in food, drinks, clothes, pictures, jewelry and Hair Doos. I Loved it. It really built my self esteem. It showed me that people could appreciate my curves and my beauty. I really never was trained. I just improvised and became a copy cat. Anything that a girl did that the crowd liked. I tried it. And sense I am a terrible copy cat it always looked like it was my original moves. It worked for me. Those times were the GOOD. Why Lord, Why

Where and how should I start to explain the hell that I just endured. It's about 8pm now and I am just pulling myself together. I was at plus size runway / catwalk boot-camp and it was very torturous on my feet and legs.

I got to the boot-camp about 10:30. Most of the girls were already sitting down in there boot-camp uniforms. I ran to the bathroom to get changed. I was the only fool in pale green leggings. I couldn't find black to save my life. And to top it off my shoes were black and light blue. I had brought a pair of 3 inch heels that I felt were as comfortable as 3 inch heals could be. They were mule type shoes with an open toe. The shoes had a wider square heel and a cushioned insole. The shoes had this type of material that held your foot like latex. So, I felt confident that my feet would not slip out of the shoes even though there is no back to them.

I went and took my place in the group and listened as we were informed that this class would change our plus size modeling life forever, As well as the overall presence that would we soon possess for all the world to see. Well, it sounds great.

So after the speech, we were asked to show our shoes. I felt confidante showing them because I followed the rules. The rule was to bring three inch heels and NO platforms. So why was I told that my carefully chosen shoes for the boot-camp were not acceptable. I got pissed, because I follow rules and to be treated like I don't gets me upset. My face contorted before I could control it. I am a Diva that is trying to be a model. Not a model trying to be a Diva. The Model that I am trying to be said "Stop it right now Diva".

So the secondary instructor asked what size shoe I wear. I said "size 9. She wore a size 10 shoe, so I couldn't wear her extra pair. I was very happy inside but tried not to show it. And then a little short round actress said. "I wear a size 9 shoe and I have an extra pair." and I said in a small voice to myself,"Why God" And then I turned around to the actress. I just smiled and said "Thank you" She reached into her bag an pull out leather 4 inch heals. all I could think was f*ck, f*ck, f*ck. First of all I don't know were this woman's feet have been, second I don't want to wear 4 inch heels for 4 hours and finally I followed the rules why am I even in this situation right now.

I slipped the shoes on while the secondary teacher praised the short round actress for sharing. We were then separated by who has runway/ model experience and those that didn't. It was about 12 girls with 6 on each side of the room. I noticed right away that the vibe from each side was totally different. On one side there was there was actresses, women that wanted to learn to command attention, and women that wanted to become plus size models, and one girl that took that class before. They were all so excited to be there. I saw how they did not have much confidnce and it only grew with every hour. There teacher was the main instructor and she had this super high energy. I mean this woman was nothing short of amazing. Her, energy, fire and stamina was intoxicating. On my side of the room were the real plus size models. We were in real boot camp with the secondary instructor. She was very stern and we were not very happy, at least I wasn't.

I thought the class was worth the money that I paid because, I got to be critiqued by the best in the business. And I do feel more confidant walking. However, The fun teacher should have been with the real models because we have the most to lose. I also think that all techniques should be taught without shoes and then after learned, they can be practiced in the shoes. I was in so much pain. I would say that I only learned 50% of the techniques. I wanted to leave the third hour but quitters never win. So I just continued to suffer.

When I got home, I just cryed and cryed. I ran some warm water, took off my clothes and sat in the tub. When I cut the water off there was a drip and it was scholding hot and it burned me. I jumped out and cried some more. I wiped my tears with my hands. They were all black. My makeup was every were. I looked like I felt. Like sh*t. Today was defenently the ugly.

Plus Models on the Runway NOW

I am on my way to runway boot camp for full figured woman. I need it because I never know what to do with my face when going on go-sees. In a show they tell you how they want your face to look. However, when you are trying to get the gig they are testing you to see if you will just do what they want. The class claims to teach techniques. I know I don't currently use techniques, so I better go learn some. A lot of people say you can't learn how to model. You either have it or you don't. I think you can always improve your craft and work on areas that you are not as strong in. I am excited because I have wanted to take this class for a while but there was always a reason why I couldn't. I am in the Miss NYC Plus Fashion Runway Pageant so we were offered a discount on the price of the course.

I didn't have anything planned for the day so I said why not. I have my bag together. We were asked to bring a t-shirt, leggings, three inch heels, a pair of socks. I am going to pick up some breakfast and I will be on my way. Wish me luck. I will let you all know how it went. The Catwalk training is only for full figured models and woman that want to to look and walk like one. So I will be comfortable around my own kind. That's right, your girl is doing her thang. It is very exciting to see myself on the cover of a Plus Size online magazine. It is called DVT - Plus Magazine. I think I look amazing. I love the way I am shown in the pictures. I can't wait to see what is next. I will be featured in the Magazine for a while and other models will get exposure as well. Central Park Photo Shoot

******************************OK , I went for a photo shoot for the Miss NYC Plus fashion pageant in Central Park. It was so fun and all the girls are so nice. At first I did not like how the pictures came out but they are growing on me. I got to know them all a little better and many of them have requested to become my Myspace friend. We took pictures in central park on huge boulders for the group picture and in front of a tree for our individual shots. It was a really pleasant experience to be among so many woman with the same aspirations and dreams as mine. Some of the woman are not models but just wanted to be in a pageant. But the energy was amazing. Many of us looked like amazon goddesses walking through the park in heals commanding everyones attention. We all wore matching white tank tops with the words "MISS N.Y.C PLUS "going in a slanted direction to look like a sash. Fun fun fun. I love to be involved in such a positive event. Hi, I am going to be in a plus size fashion pageant here in NYC and I am super excited. The plus size industry is finally breaking through the ugly image cast upon it. The image of, just smile and be fat in our Conway ad, so we can get even fatter woman to buy our clothes. That's just not how I want to be seen. The plus Pageant is another step towards freedom for me.

The pageant is new, it will be its first annual event. I am so lucky to be a part of this great and spectacular event. The girls (my competition :) are really great. Some of them weren't as social as others. What can I say, everyone has their own way of keeping their eyes on the prize. That could be part of there game plan. as for me, I am a star how could I not shine. And as for my game plan. It is simple. I just plan to bring it. This Good

My Feet are Killing Me

It is 1am and I just got home and yes my feet are killing me. I was at a photo shoot and I was really fierce. Oh but my feet are killing me from being in what I think were 4 in stilettos. I wonder when they made up plus size modeling did they take into consideration fat girls and 4 inch heals should not be put together. Let me not bite the hand that feeds me. I am going to order a beef, cheese and sauce calzone. Drink me a large glass of cold green tea and honey. I took some time to think about what drives me to do plus size modeling. It is so many things. It is all the people that would say I was pretty but I just need to lose weight(dream killers). It was the men that told me that if I did not lose weight they would leave me(but I always left instead). The times people said rude things about me while they passed me (really they were just jealous of my beauty). And especially to those that told me that I could not be a model at my size and height. I submitted my photos to a magazine that had plans to feature a plus size model of the month. They usually only put regular size models in there publications. So a lot of working full figure models wanted to be the first to grace the cover. I was no exception. However, I was not picked.

However, I am happy to say that they picked a curvy model who was 36 years old. That is increadable because the cut off for plus size modeling is 35. And here is this lovely lady beating out all the rest at one year older than the industry accepts. That truley amazes me. That means that my modeling career has longer legs now. I have to watch out for the dream killers. The ones that do anything to bring you down. They tell you that they love you and all the while they are betraying you. Yeah your a great plus size model but...... They said that you need to .............. If only you do what I said................

I received a message from a friend who has been attempting to make a living as a Plus Size Model. However, despite her efforts she is not making enough money. She feels like she can't afford to keep following this dream (traveling, studio and outfits). She is a beautiful girl and I told her so. I also told her not to give up on her dreams because when she wants the chance back, she'll be too old and the dream will be dead. She does have what it takes but she wants it to come in her time, not its time. Quitters never win and winners never quit.

I tell you it is a dog eat dog world out here and the little fish will get eaten. Up. I know that this woman is positive most of the time and does get work. However her moment of weakness may be her greatest down fall. Models are very self absorbed people. Though they will smile, wipe your face and pat your back. On the inside they are like... If you were wondering how I keep my girlish figure. I do work out but.... I just ate three caramel and nut candy apples. I ate one after another. Do I feel guilty? Hell no. But do I feel sick. Oh Yes. I just could not stop until number three. You know that saying how many licks does it get take to get to the center of a tootsie pop? So, I got this great opportunity to get some tear sheets and other benefits from this great plus size fashion shoot. The pictures are going to be featured in a well known plus size magazine. I thought that I fit the requirements close enough. However, I then received an email telling me that my look was right but my size wasn't. They have decided that they now wanted models sizes 20 to 22. I couldn't be a size 22 with all the padding the world. Dame it, I really wanted those tear sheets because they were not the regular commercial stuff. This was High Fashion baby and that is the way I love to be seen. I want to be photographed with some style. You can't find that too much in plus modeling. Sometimes it feels like they want you to smile to show how happy we are to be fat. You mean I need more padding?

Your not going to believe what I had to do at a recent Plus Size Model Go-See. They wanted a size 18/20. I am really a size 16/18 which is really not a size is it. Well it is my big old butt. It is always a 18 while my top is sometimes a Size 14, 16 or a 18 depending on the designer. Anyway I really wanted the job so I had to wear two padded bras that made my breast go from a 42 to 46 instantly. I also ate a lot of food before I went to the full figured model casting and poked out my tummy as far as I could so my waist went from and 35 to a 37 instantly. I know because they measured me. These are the things a plus size model like myself has to do to get the job and become famous . Sad and ugly, but it is 100% true.

Big Girl

I must admit that I am loving my curves these days. I always preferred being a bigger girl. However, I did not like the rolls on my body and I did not like that a lot of people that I associated with thought I should lose weight. I was in a constant struggle with my image. I wasn't sure for a long time if I really wanted to be a big girl or was that just an excuse, because I was already a big girl. Well, now that I am a Plus Size model all of my confusion is gone. I fit perfectly. I mean physically I am accepted and it feels great. Those roles are going down because I work out to stay fit. The models are all the around the same size as me .I am glad to be a part of something I believe in.(empowering woman, beauty and fashion). I am looking fierce in my pictures. Curvy legs need love too

I hurt my leg. I am sorry but I really don't want say how. Anyway, it was really bad. I was worried for a while because it got dark after it healed. As a woman of color( half black and hispanic) marks get very dark and its not pretty. So, I started putting Ambi skincare fade cream on it. I see a difference in only a week. My beautiful curvy legs are on the mend. Luckily, I don't have a scare. As a plus size model you can't have ugly legs. My name is Victoria Sprung, and I'm a Photographer in Chicago. My work appears in model books for Ford, Elite, Wilhelmina, and more. I travel to NY twice a year for model tests, and I thought I'd let you know that I will be there again September 25th through 30th.

I will be working with MUA Artemis (makeupbyartemis.com), who will be doing both makeup and hair for $45 per look. My rates are $75 per look, and that includes at least 60 frames, and retouching of 2 shots per look at no extra charge.

I will be shooting from a hotel close to the city. I will be able to do studio and natural light looks, and any kind of style you need.
